The LGBTQ+ Lawyers Assoc. of LA is proud to offer this highly-informative and practical annual MCLE on legal ethics to our members and friends. Attendance is FREE to active members and only $20 for non-members (it pays to be a member!).
Online registration WITH BAR NUMBER is required to attend and obtain MCLE Credit. This activity is approved for 1 hours of Ethics CLE credit for CA Attorneys. Zoom info & Materials will be emailed to registrants for your printing/viewing needs.
This 1-hour CLE is presented by Judge McGill of the State Bar Court of California. This is your opportunity to get a head's up on ethical traps that lawyers readily fail but could easily avoid.
Presentation starts on zoom promptly at 12pm.
Judge W. Kearse McGill is a Review Department judge for the California State Bar Court, and was appointed to this position by the California Supreme Court on November 1, 2016. Previously, he had been appointed as a Hearing Department judge on May 20, 2015.
Judge McGill’s past legal career includes work as legal counsel to a California state senator before he entered into private practice in 1995. After ten years of administrative law and civil litigation practice, Judge McGill was appointed as a workers’ compensation judge to the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board Stockton District Office on May 2, 2005. On July 1, 2013, he was appointed to the position of Presiding Judge of the Stockton District Office. Additionally, the California State Bar Board of Trustees appointed Judge McGill to the bar’s Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct in 2013, on which he served until his appointment to the State Bar Court. He has also previously served as an adjunct professor of law and has presented numerous seminars to local, state, and national attorney organizations, primarily in the subject area of professional responsibility and legal ethics.
A native of South Carolina, Judge McGill graduated magna cum laude with senior departmental honors from Clemson University in 1988 with a double major in Political Science and German. In 1991, Judge McGill graduated from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and, while there, was the managing editor of the Owens California Forms and Procedure Project and a recipient of the Gary V. Schaber Memorial Scholarship for outstanding commitment to the study of law and community involvement. He was also a founding member and officer of SACLEGAL, Sacramento County’s LGBT bar association. Judge McGill currently resides in Sacramento with his husband, Robert Jarzen.
