Intersex Primer for Legal Professionals

1 hour Elimination of Bias MCLE

July 16, 2025

Where: Zoom (instructions will be emailed to registrants before event)

Time: 12-1pm (presentation starts promptly at 12pm)

1 hour of Elimination of Bias MCLE credit will be provided.

The LGBTQ+ Lawyers Association of LA with the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Diversity in the Profession Section is proud to offer this highly-informative MCLE to our members & friends.

IMost of us have heard by now that “intersex” is an umbrella term for differences in sex traits or reproductive anatomy. But what does that mean in real life? What challenges do intersex people face, and what might policy solutions to those challenges look like? How have recent developments, including legislative attacks targeting transgender people, impacted intersex folks? How can attorneys serve as allies (or accomplices) to the intersex community? Come learn answers to these questions and many more from a nationally renowned expert and intersex leader.

Attendance is FREE to active LGBTQ+ Lawyers Association of LA and members of sibling LGBTQ+ Lawyer organizations, and only $25 for non-members (it pays to be a member!).

Presented by  Erika Lorshbough (they/them or she/her).

Erika is an intersex advocate and activist for civil and human rights, currently serving as the Executive Director of interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth. interACT is a nonprofit organization that works to empower intersex youth across the United States and to advance the rights of all people with innate variations in their physical sex characteristics through advocacy, public engagement, and community connection.

Previously, Erika served as deputy director for policy at the New York Civil Liberties Union and led the organization’s statewide legislative program advancing principles of freedom, justice, and equality. Erika also brings two decades of heart work in community organizing and social action; their law and policy experience has spanned the areas of gender and sexuality, voting rights and democracy, economic justice, criminal legal system reform, and the rights of people experiencing detention and incarceration. Erika earned a B.A. at UCLA and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. They have been honored as a Rising Star by the Brooklyn Law School Alumni Association, and as one of the Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association. Erika is also a certified restorative justice practitioner, an adoring caretaker of plants and animals (and people!), and a fan of wandering and getting lost from time to time.
